Full Background: Scott Covey
was born and raised in Pasadena in Southern California. He attended Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in California
and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. After college he was hired by Arthur Andersen, a Big
Four Accounting firm, as a financial auditor and received his CPA license in 1999. At Andersen he worked on various
industries (manufacturing, entertainment, government, retail, and utilities) for both public companies and small private companies.
He also had a lot of exposure working with numerous family owned businesses. In addition, to Scott’s auditing
duties he also lead numerous training classes, was the LMU lead recruiter, and was very active in the hiring process.
Scott left Andersen as a Manager to returned to LMU on a full ride to complete his MBA in Entrepreneurship where he
won the “Top Graduate MBA Entrepreneurship Student” award, “LMU MBA Best Venture Plan of 2000” award,
and was a semi-finalist in three National Business Plan Competitions. During graduate school Scott traveled to Asia
to conduct research on the marketing and sales evolution of the various Asian economies including China (Hong Kong and Beijing),
Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. He also traveled to Europe for in depth study of the implementation and possible affects of
the new Euro monetary system.
After Graduate School, Scott worked as a Consultant for various non-profit and small
businesses, including the “Make a Wish” Foundation before capitalizing on both his CPA and MBA and becoming the
Director of Internal Audit for a Fortune 1000 Company. Here Scott developed the internal audit department, worked on
improving internal controls, reporting systems, and worked extensively with all levels of management and personnel to effectively
implement the new systems in a timely manner. He also had extensive interaction through meetings, presentations, and
discussions with Company Executive Board, Board of Directors, and external high-level advisors and partners.
In
November 2005, Scott and his wife decided to follow their dreams and travel the world. So they quit their jobs, packed
everything they owned, sold the house and proceeded on a two year adventure around the world. The first year they toured
internationally visiting over 35 countries including Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Asia, Europe, Africa, and South
America. The second year was spent in the car driving the United States where they visited over 45 states along with
Family and Friends. At the completion of the world tour, the Coveys kept up their traveling ways and moved from Santa
Monica, CA to Chicago, IL to start the next adventure of their lives.
Scott decided to undertake his own career
transition moving from the financial and management industries into the Professional Coach industry by starting his own practice.
Scott completed his training as a Co-Active Coach through The Coaches Training Institute and has opened up his practice in
Chicago where he serves clients nationwide.
